What is the OFF-DUTY ENTREPRENEUR Conference?

Hi, My name is Nate Mitchell, Founder of Off-Duty Entrepreneur.

I worked as a Law enforcement officer in Ohio for nearly 5 years before finding my entrepreneurial path. Just like you, I had plans to move up in the ranking and retire from my “dream job” as a deputy. It didn’t really work out like that…

Once I got into the entrepreneurial mindset and understood the freedoms it provided for myself and my family – I was addicted. I lasted on-duty about 5 more years before leaving the job I thought I was staying in for the rest of my life to run my “side” business full-time.

I had so many concerns- Retirement? Stability? Health Insurance? Am I shooting too high? All of that was pushed off the table once I left the department and that scared the shit out of me. Everyone was telling me I was crazy to leave..

So fast forward 1 year…Where I am now?

I own a successful cleaning company with ~15 employees. I am spending my previous yearly salary- monthly. I own way to may vehicles and toys. I have a beautiful wife with one amazing little dude. I dont have to ask anyone to take a day(s) off to spend time with them. I am grateful for how far I’ve come (personally and professionally) in the past few years. Life is GOOD! (And I haven’t had to strap on the too hot, never comfortable able bulletproof vest or personally seen a tragedy since)

YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND THE IMPACT THE JOB HAS ON YOU UNTIL YOU LEAVE!

This is true for every aspect of your life!

I am not telling you all this to brag or to convince you to leave your job—that may not be your path. This takes hard work and late nights, and it’s a different type of stress.

This is the first event of its kind (at least that I am aware of).

Mental Health is an important topic in the first responder world, and many of us feel trapped. We start eating poorly, drinking alcohol, self-initiated activity goes way down, always in the fog, start being rude, lose some personality traits, and feeling like there’s no way out.

I will be the first to admit I lost some of myself and my heart to the first-responder world. We see things that should never happen, and each one chips away at us.

I often wonder – What kind of person would I have become if I had stayed in that world?

On May 29, 2023, everything changed

This was my first day as a true entrepreneur.

And I want to share everything I learned and help other first responders take the leap of faith.
